Refuse Him, Bones

Californian Cheryl E. Leonard has passed our way a few times and we’ve heard various instances of her beguiling experiments with playing non-musical objects, including pieces of driftwood, bones, stones, feathers, and shells. Curious to find her doing it in the company of Wobbly, that fellow from San Francisco who I normally associate with a prankster spirit and disrespectful samples and edits, often poking fun at modern society by juxtaposing spoken words plucked from the TV. But on the vinyl LP Multiple Park (GILGONGO RECORDS GGGR-123) we have a genuinely simpatico work of art, matching Leonard’s very gentle percussive work with strangely de-natured murmuring field recordings. The label is quite pleased by the overall “hallucination” effect created in this way. (28/03/2023).
