Bold As Brass

Bolder’s Hostile Environment (EDITIONS MEGO eMEGO 185) is a quite nice minimal dubby techno thing housed in a black mode cover. The beats and the bass tones are seriously punchy, and the clipped tones of this anonymous music harbour a fair amount of aggression and tension. Two fellows are involved in Bolder – Martin Maischein from Frankfurt, and Peter Votava, who is the Mego veteran Pure. Titles like ‘Extraterrestrial Deactivity’ may be a bit excessive, to say nothing of the outlandish claims made by the label for this LP, but its metallic sullenness and inhuman perfection do have a certain gravity and nihilistic charm. Underground electronic music so seamless and impervious that you could use it as body armour. From February 2014.
