Further insanity from everyone’s favourite Italian noise merchant Venta Protesix – seemingly his first for over a couple of years.
Hyperfixation (URBSOUNDS URB065) may represent the fellow’s attempt to regain control of his faculties during a time when our senses are being overloaded and bombarded by social and digital media, now proven to be invading our minds and bodies at a frightening rate, and reducing our capacity to concentrate on anything for very long. Venta’s response may be over-compensating somewhat, as his tendency here is to fill every available moment with intense musical activity, while he attempts to steady his gaze on the object of his intentions. The success, or otherwise, of his aim is clearly shown by the cover image of a beautiful woman floating in the cloud (obviously a metaphor for cloud-computing or Amazon data storage) while her face is slowly coming into view through an artificially induced haze of unknowing.
All of this is something I think we can align with previous incarnations of this unhinged creator, whose work has displayed an unhealthy obsession with bizarre sexual proclivities and addictions; the more unappeasable such lusts may be, the happier he is to explore them into infinity. This release includes one marathon workout which, at over 25 minutes, will destroy the hapless jogger as they attempt to limp around the park, and likewise vaporise all human life in the vicinity, whilst causing trees to wither and birds to fall from the sky.
